As a result of 200+ years of humanistic indoctrination, perverted thinking, and theological apostasy, I fear that America as a whole is no longer a moral and religious people as we were in the 1700's. Yes, there are many who are both religious and moral, but the vast majority of Americans seem to have long ago been seduced off the path of life by the enemy's deceptions and worldly philosophies. They are no longer governed internally by God's Law and God's Spirit, and in the place of self-government, they have given themselves over to indulgence and immorality and lawlessness, while at the same time coming under greater dependence upon the State.
Our great Constitution was truly made for a moral and Christian people who were capable of being self-governed in their persons, families, businesses, and affairs. Without that moral and Christian virtue and foundation, the Constitution is being torn to shreds daily because the people themselves and most of their leaders are living lawless lives, without restraint, without moral principles, without the fear of God before their eyes. Truly, we live in a time similar to the time of Jesus' ministry among a wicked, perverted, and adulterous generation.
The only answer I have from spending much time with the Father in His Word, is the same answer that God has already given to His people throughout Biblical history and church history: Repentance, returning to God with all of our hearts, producing fruits in keeping with repentance.
Isaiah, Jeremiah, Hosea, John the Baptist, Jesus Christ himself, and the apostles, all spoke the same message of repentance and returning to God and keeping His commandments. The same message is proclaimed by Jesus through His revelation to the apostle John in the Apocalypse. In each case, the message is to God's people rather than to the pagan world. It is always a call and a warning to the people of God, to the saints, to the "called out ones" (the Church), to those who have ears to hear and eyes to see. This is a calling forth of the remnant of God's saints to come out from among the pagan world and be separate, be holy, be separated wholly unto God alone. The key Scripture usually quoted is 2 Chronicles 7:14 which says it all so clearly and concisely. Yes, our repentance must begin with and be established on humility before God, on getting on our knees and praying and confessing our sins and repenting of our sins to God, and this must be accompanied by the fruit of actually turning away from our wicked ways as we seek first the face of God and His righteousness.
I believe the answer to America's crisis is for every true disciple of Jesus to live out 2 Chronicles 7:14 on a daily basis and to come together with other saints to do this and affirm this in a corporate fashion as well. This means our leaders must rise up and lead the repentance with the saints. Repentance begins with confessing our poverty of spirit taught in the Beattitudes, along with mourning over our sins and the sins of our nation and of the church. Jeremiah 4:3-4 "Break up your fallow ground and do not sow among thorns. Circumcise yourselves to the Lord and remove the foreskins of your heart." Finally, Jeremiah 2:13 states that God's people have committed two great evils: "They have forsaken Me, the Fountain of living waters, and they have hewed out for themselves cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water." I encourage every disciple of Jesus to forsake, renounce, and destroy ever self-hewed cistern (idol) in their lives and RETURN to the LORD God Almighty, Yahweh, our heavenly Father, who is the only fountain of living waters, and to His Son, Jesus Christ, who promised: "If any man is thirsty, let him COME TO ME and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scriptures said, From his innermost being shall flow rivers of living water." John 7:37-38
Repentance is a work of the Holy Spirit in the hearts of His children. It begins with humility of heart, mourning, meekness, and hungering and thirsting for righteousness. It begins with the receiving and developing of the fear of the Lord in the face of God's holiness and majesty. It manifests itself in sowing mercy, purity of heart, peacemaking, joyful suffering for righteousness, and then allowing God to use us to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world.
The root of the problem of America is spiritual, not political, not economic, not social, not technological, not governmental. As such, we need to use spiritual weapons to wage spiritual warfare against what is destroying the foundations of our nation. The weapons of our warfare are not carnal but spiritual, to the pulling down of strongholds and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God. What are our spiritual weapons that we need to battle with? Humility of heart, repentance of sin, returning to God with all of our hearts, prayer and fasting, the Word of God (His Sword of the Spirit), the name of Jesus, the blood of Jesus, the laying down of our lives for Christ and the brethren, the word of our testimony, faith in God, praise, thanksgiving, worship in spirit and truth, love, forgiveness, holiness, the preaching and teaching of God's Word, the educating of generations for Christ, the godly training of our children in the fear and admonition of the Lord, etc. These are our spiritual weapons that we need to devote ourselves to using if we ever want to fight the good fight of faith, overcome evil with good, and walk in victory in Christ.
